Microsoft has officially begun accepting orders for its Windows 365 Link device, a specialized thin client system designed specifically for secure cloud PC connectivity. First announced at Microsoft's Ignite conference in November, the device promises to connect users to Windows 365 cloud environments in mere "seconds."

Streamlined Cloud Computing Solution

The Windows 365 Link represents Microsoft's first hardware product purpose-built for cloud PC functionality, creating what the company describes as a "full stack solution" for accessing virtual machines running Windows 11 and Windows 10. After completing an extensive preview period with over 100 organizations testing the device, Microsoft has now made it commercially available.

"We've heard valuable feedback on how Windows 365 Link devices can help save both IT and end users valuable time. The devices can be set up in minutes, require minimal configuration, and are familiar for IT to manage using Microsoft Intune," the company stated.

Security-First Design

Security stands as one of the primary selling points for the Windows 365 Link. The device features no local apps or data storage capabilities, eliminating common security vulnerabilities. Additionally, it lacks local user accounts with administrative privileges, preventing potential headaches for IT administrators.

The thin client incorporates numerous security features, including:

  • Discrete Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0)

  • Secure boot functionality

  • BitLocker encryption

  • Strict application control policies

  • Pre-enabled security baseline policies

Technical Specifications

The Windows 365 Link is built around an Intel N250 processor based on the Twin Lake architecture, featuring:

  • 4 cores/4 threads with boost speeds up to 3.8GHz

  • 6MB of L3 cache

  • 6W base power consumption

  • 8GB of LPDDR5 memory

  • 64GB of UFS storage

  • Wi-Fi 6E connectivity

  • Bluetooth 5.3 support

Connectivity Options

Despite its compact size, the device offers comprehensive connectivity:

  • Front: 1× USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port

  • Rear: 2× USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports

  • Rear: 1× USB-C port (USB 3.2, DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode, 7.5W power delivery)

  • Video outputs: HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4a

  • Side: Kensington lock slot for physical security

Compact Form Factor

The Windows 365 Link features a remarkably small footprint, measuring just:

  • 4.72 inches (length)

  • 4.72 inches (width)

  • 1.18 inches (height)

  • Weight: 14.75 ounces

Availability of Windows 365 Link

Unlike consumer-focused mini PCs that have recently flooded the market, the Windows 365 Link targets enterprise and business environments. Microsoft directs interested organizations to contact their Microsoft account team or reach out to select retailers. In the United States, authorized retailers include Insight Enterprises and SHI International Corp.

This launch reinforces Microsoft's commitment to cloud-based computing solutions for enterprise customers, providing a secure, efficient, and purpose-built gateway to Windows cloud environments.
